Mermaid Gin has been hand-crafted at the Isle of Wight Distillery since 2014. It?s our signature small batch London Dry Gin with a hint of sea air. It?s smooth, refreshing and complex with a contemporary style. Our award-winning gin takes its name from the lead botanical, rock samphire – known locally as ?mermaid?s kiss?. This aromatic succulent clings to the cliffs surrounding the Island and marks the high tide line on its majestic beaches. Like the kiss of the mythical mermaid, saving sailors lost at sea, the rock samphire was a signal that shipwrecked sailors and smugglers were safe from the raging seas. On the nose is fresh citrus, sweet spice and gentle juniper. The taste features a citrus zing with a distinct peppery spice, thanks to the botanical ingredient grains of paradise, as well as earthy sweetness and a hint of sea air. Our locally sourced elderflower adds a beautiful aroma to the gin. The finish is long, layered and complex with a well-rounded mouthfeel Serve Over ice, with a splash of tonic and a slice of lemon, grapefruit or cucumber. Awarded first place in the 2019 IWSC Design Awards, Mermaid Gin has been awarded the Plastic-Free standard by A Plastic Planet, as certified by Control Union. Crafted from recyclable glass, the bottle features a sustainably sourced natural cork stopper and compostable tamper-proof seal. By presenting our gin in a plastic-free package and supporting marine conservation projects, we aim to preserve the environment of mermaids.
